About Benzaiten Collective
Benzaiten Collective has been conceived as a space for artists, researchers and thinkers to express their visions on diverse topics relevant to Humanity. Always embracing distinct backgrounds and cultures, we aim to generate a platform for experimentation, discussion and creation, where different voices can be heard, and diverse perspectives provided.
Our Collective was named after Japanese Buddhist goddess Benzaiten (弁才天, 弁財天), one of the Seven Lucky Gods (the seven gods of good fortune in Japanese mythology and folklore). Regarded as one of Japan's most complex syncretic deities (mixing Hindu, Buddhist and Shinto elements) and conceived as the personification of the sacred river and water in general, her worship is associated with everything that flows: music, poetry, writing, learning, eloquence, wisdom, and performing arts.
Both an artist and a warrior, this goddess manifests the transforming power of the Arts. Parting from the premise that all ways of expression are essential tools to communicate and promote values of peace and understanding, our collective has been contrived as a space for research, reflection, discussion and artistic creation. Embracing Art Activism as a key element of social protest and a means of sociopolitical transmutation, we welcome artists, researchers and thinkers from various backgrounds to collaborate with us!
